Gorilla trekking requirements

1. Age:
First and most important you must be 15 years and older to obtain a gorilla trekking permit. The age limit for gorilla trekking is set to 15 because children usually carry flu, colds, chickenpox and mumps that could be infect the gorillas. You need to have a yellow fever vaccine to be allowed into Uganda, Rwanda or Congo.
2. Type of shoes
One of the most important pieces of gorilla trekking clothing is a good pair of hiking boots. This trek is not something you want to try and attempt in sneakers or sandals. The paths are muddy, slippery and you need to have good traction while hiking.
3. A pair of hiking gloves
Hiking and trekking gloves offer good protection against the cold. Some offer additional wind-proof protection, in other words, they have a membrane that offers protection against the wind. Similarly, if you are walking in the rain, waterproof gloves will offer the protection you need.
4. Insect repellent
Insect repellents are agents that are used to protect the body from the bites of insects that can cause local or systemic effects. Whilst some bites cause only local skin irritation, some can cause serious illnesses and possibly death as the insects act as carriers or vectors of diseases.
5. Energy giving snacks
The energy boosting snacks come in different brands, · Crunchy peanut butter & banana pots · Feelgood flapjacks · Protein balls · Healthy cookies · Banana & blueberry. remember to carry a few of them to last you for a few hours during a hike or an activity.
6. Biodegradable tissue or toilet paper
Yes, all toilet paper is biodegradable because it is made from the same natural materials as paper-like wood pulp. But biodegradable toilet paper is different because it dissolves faster which makes it naturally septic safe as well.
7. A pair of hiking trousers,
Hiking pants aren’t necessary for hiking (you can hike in any pants you want), but there are several reasons why you would want to consider wearing hiking pants. They’re lightweight, dry easily, and comfortable. We’ve found that most experienced hikers prefer hiking pants because of these reasons, hiking trousers are designed to protect you in the extreme elements, which is lots of varieties to choose from. Hiking trousers are sturdy, all-round trousers for hiking, backpacking, camping and all sorts of other outdoor pursuits. Typically, these trousers will fit comfortably and feature quick-drying fabric technologies to wick sweat away from the skin and keep you dry.
8.Decent light waterproof jacket.
A lightweight waterproof jacket also has numerous benefits when you’re actually wearing it. Typically, thinner fabrics are more breathable and feel less cumbersome, permitting greater freedom of movement. This can be a benefit during other outdoor activity such as trail running and mountain biking. This rainwear is obviously meant to keep you dry, but its other job is to keep you warm. This latter function is underrated, but it’s arguably the more important of the two from a safety standpoint. It’s the reason rain gear is considered one of the Ten Hiking Essentials you should never hike without.
9. Photographic camera
And as you head for your safari in Africa besides binoculars, you also need a camera on this wonderful journey in order to capture the best photos of the different animals that you get to see and the birds. You should however note that it is a bit hard to take clear photos as the animals are always on the move. so having a fast shutter camera allows light to pass for a determined period, exposing photographic film or a photosensitive digital sensor to light in order to capture a permanent image of a scene. having a small camera with good zooming helps you take great photos during your safari.
